In September 1893 New Zealand became the first self governing country to enfranchise all women.
Whilst some countries had previously permitted some women to vote this was the first time all women’s votes were considered equal to men’s. The UK and USA would not enfranchise women until 1918 and 1919, respectively and with several constrictions.
Our postcards feature important people and events from women's and queer history and are designed by our in house graphic design team. Send to family and friends or use to decorate!
Suffrage in New Zealand is designed by Laura Castanheira for The HERstory Project.
